General
information
You
may find the following information about Matchani Gran useful
during your stay with us.
We will
be cooking a meal for you on one evening during the week
from a varied menu if you so wish.
Enjoy
your own drinks by the pool or join Shaun at the bar (5.30
to 8.30) in the evening and then again at 10.15 pm until
Shaun, who is also the night watchman, goes to bed! There
is a fridge, with plenty of ice, in the bar for your use
and also the kitchen facilities. NO RULES!!!
TO SAVE MONEY we have a large gas barbecue at your disposal
where you may cook your own delicious meals "al fresco".
In San Clemente there is an excellent supermarket which
stocks high quality meats, vegetables, salads and drinks
and also cold meats, cheeses and fresh bread. Guests can
also cook on the informal "Al Fresco" Nights and
whilst you are sunbathing or exploring the beautiful island
we will set your table with tablecloths, napkins and cutlery
in readiness for you to show off your cooking prowess. To
make it easier for you and to accompany your barbecue we
will provide, for a nominal fee, a dish of layered potatoes
with cream and onions, baked in the oven, garlic bread and
a bowl of salad.
As there is an honesty system at the bar, you may help yourself
and write your drinks in your book.
No buffet
at breakfast, we will serve you a full continental breakfast,
consisting of melon, fruit, fruit juices, yoghurts, cereals
and preserves. Fresh pastries are purchased daily and placed
on your table for your convenience. Also cooked freshly
for you are scrambled eggs, poached or boiled eggs and hot
brown or white toast.
We have a selection of herbal teas, freshly ground coffee
and English tea
In the barn amongst Shaun's treasured museum pieces are
a complementary tea and coffee tray with milk and biscuits.
Please do help yourselves, as it is more convenient than
going back to your room to make the tea with sunshine hours
being precious.
Also
in the barn are beach umbrellas, beach chairs, rain umbrellas
(not that you'll need these), sun hats and over 2,000 paperback
books for your holiday reading and enjoyment.
All
the water for the house comes from our well and is pumped
to a cisterna below the house. It is then filtered and functions
on a pressure pump system. The water in the bottle in your
room is straight from the tap, which in turn comes from
our well and is very pure. Yes, it is safe to drink and
tastes good, pure and sweat.
There
is liquid detergent to hand wash your clothes in every bathroom
behind the basin and the washing lines are for general use
located behind the barn. There is also an ironing board
and iron in the barn. You will find laundry bags on the
back of the bathroom door. Please hand these into the kitchen
and we will wash, dry and fold on the same day. A charge
of 6 Euros will be entered in your "mess" book.
There
are men's and ladies bar toilets situated through the back
barn door with a shower in the men's.
The
pool is solar heated and pool towels are kept in the covered
lounge area by the pool. When you have finished with the
towels please leave them by the pool or hand them in at
the bar. They will be collected and washed at the end of
the day.
Sant
Climent is a 15-minute stroll from Matchani Gran or short
taxi ride; walk to the end of the drive and turn right.
There you will find four restaurants. The newly refurbished
Casino Bar and Restaurant offers a full al a carte menu,
plus extensive tapas, with a take out service also. Here
you will find the famous Jazz night entertainment every
Tuesday evening.
The
English run Mustapha Cusi restaurant offers informal dining
with music and entertainment and open most evenings. There
is an English pub, "The Coach & Horses", offering
familiar food both lunch times and evenings.
One
of the best restaurants to be found on the island is also
in San Climent, "Moli De Foc", which we highly
recommend.
Should
you decide to hire a car during your stay we will arrange
this for you or if you prefer call for a taxi.
Through
the archway by the pool you will find a "Petanca Courts".
Also in front of the house by the Carriage House you can
find The Wild Woods. There are paths marked and a very pleasant
half an hour can be spent listening to the birds and searching
for the many tortoises.
Should
you be too hot or cold in your room and require duvets,
fans or heaters etc or have any queries please do not hesitate
to ask.
At Matchani
Gran we have a dog, Shamus, a cat called Blackie together
with an assortment of fish, tortoise and hedgehogs. We also
have about 40 very friendly sheep grazing with their "baby-sitters",
George and his daughter Connie the donkeys in the backfields.
"Babe", Jenny's tame sheep will always be at the
gate to greet you. Our sheep will eat most things but are
especially partial to spaghetti, a most interesting sight
to see.
Breakfast
is served from 8.30 am until 10.00 am. It would be appreciated
if you could be seated by 10.00 am.
If for
any reason the gate by the car park should be locked, the
key is kept under the green lion on the left hand pillar.
We think
that covers most things but if you have any questions regarding
beaches, directions, shoe shops (Jenny's speciality) or
any queries please feel free to ask and we will do our best
to help.
The
house is secure but you may wish to lock away tickets, passports,
cash, jewellery etc in our big boy safe. Just hand your
valuables to a member of staff and they will be pleased
to lock them away until you should require them.
The
black knob on the bath lifts and pushes to convert from
a bath to shower. They can become a little stiff.
Emergency
telephone number are listed by the telephone on the inside
bar.
Both
Jenny and Shaun sincerely hope you have a pleasant and enjoyable
stay at Matchani Gran.
